eBiking the Old Erie Canal Trail in New York
We found a local bike shop to have some tune up work done on our eBikes. The guys at Resource Cycling in Fayetteville, NY (map ) were easy to work with and had our bikes tuned up and back to us faster than they estimated! To test them out, we took an almost 14 mile ride from our camp site to the Old Erie Canal State Park across from the park.
The Old Erie Canal State Park runs about 36 miles from DeWitt to Rome, NY. It is part of the larger trail systems in NY - Erie Canal Trail and Empire State Trail. The Erie Canal Trail is a 360 mile trail from Albany to Buffalo that follows the Erie Canal. The Empire State Trail includes the Erie Canal Trail and two North to south trails for a total of 750 miles. Much of the surface is paved or compacted gravel/sand.
Green Lakes State Park is only a few miles from DeWitt at the west end of the Old Erie Canal State Park, so we decided to head that way to the end of the trail. We had a great ride and our bikes performed really well! It was a beautiful day to get out and enjoy a ride!
