A Beautiful Afternoon at Natural Bridge State Park
What a beautiful afternoon at Natural Bridge State Park ! Steve and I were last here in November 2015 after I attended a conference in DC. At the time the park was privately owned, becoming a park in 2016. There have been some renovations of the main office area and the park. Steve remembers taking a shuttle bus down and then back up to the office, but this time, we had to walk down about 14 flights of stairs…. And then back up!
Also the last time we were here, there was a recreation of a Monocan Indian Village. This time, however, the exhibit was marked but definitely no longer active.
We took time to walk just over one mile along the trail from the main attraction back to Lace Falls. Aptly named, the water cascading down the rocks reminds me of a beautiful and intricate weaving of lace. At the end of our walk back, we were rewarded with an even prettier view of the Natural Bridge!
Did you know that the 157 acres of land where Natural Bridge is located was purchased in 1774 from King George by Thomas Jefferson for only 20 shillings? Today’s equivalent would be ~$200!
